![]() ![]() It is unknown how the Cellar Archives got flooded almost instantly.Judging from an old concept map, the Cellar Archives appear to originally have been a part of the Archives level. While the former human monsters cannot be killed, the Kaernks can be. In the second, larger open room with the second Kaernk, Daniel can use the flesh to draw the Kaernk closer to him, then using one of the small boxes, hit it over the head, actually killing the Kaernk in this area.Daniel instead needs to beware watching the Kaernk too much, because that will still frighten him. Light sources are not necessary in this level, because the ambient light, while dim, is still sufficient to keep Daniel's sanity from dropping (ironically, the Shadow itself provides some light in the first flooded tunnel by infesting one corner, shining red phosphorescence down the corridor in both directions).Should Daniel get through the timed gate before it closes, it will shut behind him and keep the first Kaernk out, but the second one will come across the larger room to investigate Daniel. The first is in the flooded tunnel that makes up the first section of the level, and the second is in the larger flooded room beyond the timed gate. In the back of the small room filled with bookshelves, directly ahead.ĭocuments There are no documents in this area.Use the Hollow Needle, found on a shelf to the left, to pick the lock and exit to the Archive Tunnels.Ĭellar Archives when dry. The final room contains the exit door, which is locked. You should still give the Kaernk some more flesh to munch on, just to lure it further away from you. An easier way of accomplishing this is by moving a nearby crate to in front of the gate, giving you a place to stand on while you open it.The next gate is crank-operated, so you will have to further distract the Kaernk in order to safely open it.If you attempt to make a run for it before it reaches a body part, it will instantly lose interest and chase after you instead. The Kaernk is only distracted while it is chewing, so listen for its sounds to determine when it is safe to move. While it is eating, you can move to the far end of the room, where there is another set of body parts. Throw one in the water away from you and wait for the monster to start chowing down on it. These are useful for distracting the Kaernk. A number of body parts are scattered on both chests. The one on the left has an oil potion on it. There is another Kaernk in the next room, so quickly get on top of one of the large chests directly ahead or to the left.As soon as you pull it, quickly make your way to the gate by jumping across the crates. Pulling it raises the gate, but only for a short time. Heading back to the other room, there is a lever on the wall. The laudanum is on a shelf at the end of the trail of crates. To find it, follow the crates, and turn right. The room on the left side of the hallway (on the right, if returning from the gate) has a laudanum inside. ![]() You will have to turn back and find the way to open it. If you skip the side rooms and make your way across the crates in the main hallway, you will come to a gate that you cannot open by hand. However, you may need to use the lantern occasionally for visibility. Using the lantern here is not needed to prevent sanity loss, as the ambient lighting is sufficient. You cannot jump directly onto the large chests.Get on top of a crate as soon as possible to avoid being attacked. The area will become flooded and a Kaernk will begin splashing toward you. The candles will be extinguished, being replaced by a red glow. Upon taking a few steps forward into the area, the Shadow will roar, covering the walls with its flesh. The following section is written from an out-of-universe perspective. Fortunately, a hollow needle is nearby on one of the shelves and with it Daniel may pick the lock to escape. At the end of this area a door is found leading to the Archive Tunnels but it is locked. ![]() There are lots of severed body parts to distract the Kaernks and many crates to jump on to avoid them. There are two gates in the Cellar Archives: the first is a timed one, opened by a lever in the room near the entrance and the second one has a rotation mechanism to raise it. ![]() After a few steps the first Kaernk will appear, splashing towards Daniel. Just like the Refinery, the Shadow has started to completely consume this area. When Daniel reopens his eyes, the entire area has become partially flooded. As the player enters the Cellar Archives, the Shadow's cry is heard while the vision blacks out. ![]()
